Adulting in Style
When you're a weird middle schooler, all you want to be is that crazy teen in high school. Then, when you're your mom's worst nightmare in high school, you can't wait to have the freedom that comes along with being a cool college kid.
But, let me tell you, there is this bizarre time in college that hits you around junior year where all of your dreams and anticipation of becoming a full-functioning adult in the real world kind of become nightmares. Once you reach the reality that 'adulting' means working 6am-6pm without the luxuries of having your own personal momager to do and plan everything for you, being ‘grown-up’ starts seeming less appealing.
So yes, if you haven't guessed it already, I'm kind of going through that confusing phase right now. Of course, I can't wait for the day that I get to decorate my own apartment with clashing styles, join a dodgeball league with my friends, discover my domestic skills in the kitchen for once and live in a lavish robe after those long days at work - but for those long days at work, I could wait.
Somehow it just hit me that a three-month summer break is no longer a thing, and adults actually have to secure a good job to make a decent living. So now i'm in the midst of finding an internship this winter to jumpstart my 'selling your soul' career--and that's kind of scary. But if there's one valuable skill set I have (besides all the ones I exaggerated on my resume), it's that somehow I can trick my mind into getting excited for things I'm low-key dreading.
So now to the main point of this post! What's something very adult and exciting about getting a corporate job? Dressing like a corporate bad-ass woman--the ultimate boost of confidence.
Like seriously, have you ever tried on a pantsuit? I could weigh 200 pounds more one day with acne exploding all over my face, and the moment I’d put on a pantsuit I’d consider myself a 10. It's the closest thing I've ever seen to magic.
So below I’ve attached some corporate inspiration from my Pinterest hunt that I came across when trying to find the perfect interview outfit to somehow transform myself from being very under-qualified for these jobs to being so overqualified that I'm doing the company a service by even showing up. I also just got so excited seeing all the cute and confident looks that real adults wear that I somehow convinced myself I can't wait to have a 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. job--anything for a pencil skirt.
Well, I hope this post tricks all of you almost-adulters into thinking that having a real, stressful job with no life will be the most exciting thing of your 20’s! But hey, dressing happy sometimes can translate into a happy heart, just as a bad-ass pantsuit injects you with a killer confidence boost.
Well I hope this stylish business-woman inspiration brings some happiness to the doom of having to actually get a real job. Yikes!
Also for those currently on the hunt for office clothes--my favorite stores to gear up for adulting are Zara and Nordstrom Rack! Chic & cheap!
Now get to happy hunting!
